Lead with empathy.
If one more person tries to sell me based on their credentials I just might lose it!
I’m @CommisChefChris I’ve been in the Culinary industry for 17 years & I love spending my time helping as many people as I can, whether it’s through advising on how I dealt with some of my own life challenges, or if it’s through Savor The Passion where I’m making ordering a Chef as easy as a pizza.
So, I get plenty of emails & messages from people offering to do this, that & the other to my web app, right? (And it definitely needs the help)
The problem is they do it all wrong! They tell me they worked with some companies I’ve never heard of, using technology I don’t understand, to accomplish tasks I’m not concerned about.
Never mind what my company does.
Who cares what problems I do care about?
No questions other than “can I chomp away at your valuable time to sell you something?”
When it comes to sales you gotta know who you’re TALKING to.
What’s going on in their lives? Know what kind of day they’re having. Worst case scenario: you get a clear picture of where their head is at. Best case scenario: you get a clear picture of where their head is at.
What is keeping FRED up at night right now?
What is FRED trying to get out of this conversation?
What Can FRED expect of you and what do you expect of FRED?
What does FRED’s dream scenario look like to you?
Sure, let’s be real; we want to make a sale right? That’s obvious, but let’s not make it so transactional.
This should be about two people making a win-win agreement and we make that happen naturally when we genuinely care about them.
**REMEMBER. Sometimes the most win-win scenario means referring them to someone that makes a better fit.***
