First, you need to start off by watching this video on YouTube by Patrick Bet-David. Then the rest will make sense.

I’m Commis Chef Chris Martin. I’ve been in the Culinary industry 16 years and I love spending my time helping as many people as I can whether its through giving advice on how I dealt with some of my own life challenges, or if it’s through SavorThePassion.com where I’m working to increase the quality of life of all that I can through the power of food.

I started off my day today by watching a video that you hopefully watched by the time you got to this sentence. If you haven't stop reading and go watch the video.

Here is my response to Richard Wolff.

SO much to be said here.

So let us start off with his wealthy friends that said how upset they were with their lives, they should have followed their passion.

As you both have so eloquently stated the likelihood of coming out rich isn’t great, but surprise surprise if you want an extraordinary life it requires extraordinary effort. Effort mind you that most don’t have the dedication required to achieve such results.

Capitalism vs Feudalism vs Slavery

Now, he wants to compare Capitalism with Feudalism and Slavery…I can’t believe this is a discussion but here we go. Feudalism: a system where 1 person controls all with total impunity and to go against his wishes is sure to end in punishment up to and likely being death. You can leave, but leaving means leaving everyone and everything behind and you do not want to return. In the world of capitalism sure there’s a leader but they are far from all-powerful. As you said, there are more ways to fire a CEO than any other employee by far.

Now, Slavery vs Capitalism *Takes a Deep Breath The Way A Black Man Living In America Does* Slavery involves being taken from everything you know and love. Being worked oftentimes literally to death either through exhaustion or through natural causes. There is no compensation. The food, the shelter, and water are not payment, they are to keep you alive long enough to put in another day of work assuming you don’t rock the boat.

In capitalism, There is no form of slavery, regardless of how little you get paid you are free to go find another job that values your skill to the degree you feel you’re worth. If you don’t appreciate how you’re being treated there is a very easy way to crush them; leave and let them fall. We vote for/against companies in two ways, with our money and with our effort. With our money, we vote for the ideals that we wish to support. If you don’t like what they stand for, give your money to their competitor and starve their business. Don’t like their product or service, the same things. As an employee, if management is made up of bosses not leaders its a very simple solution, leave.

The thing about companies that grow; they grow an employee base because they require their talent. Without it, they don’t have what it takes to compete in the marketplace. Anyone that has any affiliation to this channel understands that concept.

Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is.

Next: I’m very curious about this man’s spending habits. Where does he spend his money, how does he vote? Does his spending habits align with the values his mouth expresses? I doubt it.

Now, being an employee is risky? Phh, being an employee is the lowest form of risk you can possibly have. You have the most control over your future as an employee in many respects. You can determine your worth, not by simply saying you’re worth it because that means nothing, but you have the ability to shape your skillset to achieve. If the company you’re working for collapses, what happens? You find another job. If you get fired its because you didn’t provide more value than your presence was worth and you can fix that.

Oh, and for this guy to say “a lot of people are finding out it’s risky to be an employee right now; is he completely blind to the number of businesses that have gone bankrupt at this time. Where is their unemployment? Oh wait. They don’t get one because they took the greatest risk by betting on themselves. It’s not like they saw this pandemic coming they are just as caught off guard as everyone else so that was definitely a cheap shot.

Common Ground

We do have something in common though. I too asked my teachers difficult questions they couldn’t answer. I however grilled the ones I didn’t like and left the class of those I did. I remember one time someone walked up and apologized that I left I just looked at her and said “don’t be sorry for me, I’ll take that “F” I just feel bad for him because he clearly doesn’t understand the topic deep enough to teach me and that made me accidentally put him in a bad spot.” (probably a paraphrase, but I remember exactly where I was standing when we had that conversation.)

Status Quo

Ok, so this guy believes that more people can’t make millions because of a status quo. If that doesn’t tell us everything we need to know about how he solves issues I don’t know what does. Also, maybe he should lay off the slavery comparisons. Like you say, he’s reaching and he’s reaching hard. Read the documents, listen to the speeches look at where the money goes: it’s very clear, the goal is to produce more producers. He thinks the system is designed to keep people poor?! No! The system is designed to reward those that give more than they take. The issue is what society values. For instance. Lockdown occurred and zoom skyrocketed why? because business makes money through zoom now, However by the same token, so did Netflix, why? Because people value being entertained, not putting in hard work to provide value to their community.

Take Responsibility

Photo by Matt Ragland on Unsplash

Again, he talks about the schools and people feeling mislead DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH TAKE RESPONSIBILITY!! Do you know how many calls I’ve received to wipe away my student loan debt?! A LOT. I went to Le Cordon Bleu. Long story short people were angry because they felt mislead by the people that sold them on the classes.

I was directly misled when I was told classes were being held that there weren’t (Wine Pairing and Butchery) but did I cry about it and say that the jobs don’t pay enough? NO! I figured out a way to use my education to flip the game.

These kids coming out of school with a BA and upset they can’t find work are the same kids that shouldn’t have gone to school in the first place for so many reasons the least of which being, the amount of jobs available. If you’re upset about the lack of jobs available I ask you this WHAT ARE YOU DOING ABOUT IT?!?

Losers Battle

We’re now talking about arguing over price. If that were a legitimate argument what does McDonald’s not own the entire burger market or fast-food, restaurant segments. They simply don’t have a monopoly. Any company fighting only the cost battle is fighting a losers battle.

Alright, he’s got a point now. The only place we see a little about it is in the cable industry. That was their strategy clearly. That said, if it were overpriced again vote with your money. Why do people buy the most from Amazon? Because they provide a superior service.

If someone wants to crush Amazon, build strong distribution with a genuine emotional aspect that they care about the little guy. If they can prove they take care of their employees better AND provide comparable prices (they don’t even need to be cheaper, within a dollar or two is fine in most cases) AND provide a similar level of distribution they could cripple Amazon, especially with their senior management leaving citing poor treatment of employees there might not be a better time to kick them in the teeth.

Pick Your Flavor

He wants them to be their own boss, lol, you’re a person with a social security number therefore you are your own boss. THIS GUY ISNT DRINKING HIS OWN KOOLAID?!?!?!? If you don’t get the job thank them, it means you weren’t a good fit and would have been miserable.

You want to say they/ we take the fruit of your labor YOUR JOB IS THE FRUIT OF OUR LABOR! He says he ran a business but couldn’t say if it was profitable (weak man’s way of saying it’s not, be proud that you’re still figuring it out) which means he hasn’t made any hires. The amount of work, effort & Sacrifice required to build a business is unimaginable until you’re in it. It’s insane and to have the gull you say taking the fruit of YOUR LABOR!

Start a real business with real potential and find the balls to say that sentence again. Bottom-up may be attractive but that doesn’t make it effective. Wow, if I ever needed the ridiculousness of Marxism & Socialism to be reinforced Richard Wolff just did it. Guys, what was the wildest part of what this guy just said?
